Dr Mistry has been Board Certified by the American Board
of Plastic Surgery since 1996 and is a proud member of the
American Society of Plastic Surgery.
Choosing a qualified surgeon to perform your plastic surgery
can seem difficult, as many medical doctors perform plastic
surgery procedures, yet are neither specifically trained nor
certified in plastic surgery. Surgeons certified by the American
Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) are specifically trained to
perform plastic surgery procedures. The ABPS is the only board
approved by the American Board of Medical Specialties to certify
medical doctors in the specialty of plastic surgery of the
face and body. Many practitioners of cosmetic surgery use
the term "board certified". Careful and discriminating
patients are sure to ask "Board certified by which board?".
A variety of "Boards" exist, some with minimal educational
requirements for certification.
In order to become Board Certified by the American Board
of Plastic Surgeons a medical doctor must:
|
Graduate from an accredited Medical School
Complete three years or more of General Surgery residency
training*
Complete two years of Plastic Surgery residency training*
Complete comprehensive written and oral examinations
Recertify by written exam every 10 years
Hold a valid medical license in the state where he/she
practices
*Residency training must be done in programs accredited
by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education
(ACGME).

Only Board Certified Plastic Surgeons are invited to become
members of the American Society of Plastic Surgery. The Society
further requires members only to operate in accredited medical
facilities, adhere to a strict code of ethics and fulfill
continuing medical education requirements.
Only members of the American Society of Plastic Surgery may
display the ASPS "swirl" logo. This symbol ensures
that your surgeon is being held to the highest standards in
Plastic Surgery.
